DSGisn't an automatic, when compared to a traditional slushbox. Automatic only in the sense it can shift for you if you want it to. I run this in my '07 GTI, and it's a great trans. Efficiency is on par with a manual, and leaving it in Tiptronic mode allows you to select the gears instead of the Mechatronics unit handling it.
