The Nikon Nikkor Z 28-75mm F2.8 is an appealing, enthusiast-level standard zoom lens that offers background-blurring optics at a far more affordable price than the 24-70mm F2.8 S. Nikon Nikkor Z
The Sony Carl Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8 Zoom Lens is extremely sharp and has a fixed f/2.8 aperture, but performance comes at a price. Read Our Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Review More
The Z 24-70mm F2.8 S sits above the Z 24-70mm F4 in Nikon's new mirrorless lineup, and offers a native mirrorless alternative to the company's AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8 for its DSLRs. Promising to be smaller, lighter, and sharper than its forebears, the new lens has been keenly awaited by professional and enthusiast Nikon photographers. The performance of the Nikon Z 28mm f/2.8 and the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 S is surprisingly similar at a given aperture and portion of the frame. The only meaningful difference I see is a slight sharpness advantage to the 24-70mm f/4 S in the midframe, thanks to its lower level of field curvature. And while it’s slimmer and shorter than the 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, it’s a little wider and longer than the f/4 lens. I tested the Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 on the Nikon Z9, and compared with your average f/2.8 zoom lens, it looks a bit on the skinny-side on the double-gripped camera. But that’s a good thing, it means that it’s nicely-sized Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Review: An Affordable Alternative to a 24-70mm Sigma to Reveal 35mm f/1.2, 45mm f/2.8 and 14-24mm f/2.8 Next Week Nikon’s 24-70mm f/2.8 Z-Mount Lens is ‘The New Benchmark

I happen to also have the very fine 24-70mm/f4 S kit lens. That is the one I use for landscape and travel, mainly because it is much lighter. Here is another example for comparison: an F-mount 24-70mm/f2.8 E AF-S VR on a Nikon D750, also at 24mm, f2.8. It is 6pm now so that the lighting is different. You can see the moon at the bottom of the frame.

The Nikon Z 24-120mm f/4 S fills a small gap in Nikon’s line-up of Z-mount standard zoom lenses, slotting in between the more compact Z 24-70mm f/4 S and hefty Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S ‘trinity’ zoom. It’s sure to find favor with Nikon photographers shifting to mirrorless from a full-frame DSLR, who have long enjoyed the versatile 5x zoom
